A mixture of hydrogen peroxide and docusate sodium applied directly to the ear will work to loosen wax build up within the ear canal. You may use an ear dropper to apply this effective solution to inside the ear. Be careful not to puncture or penetrate the ear drum in any way.

Believe it or not plain old rubbing alcohol can be used to clear wax from ears. In addition, you may try mixing some warm water with the alcohol to further loosen wax from the ears. This solution may be applied gently with a Q-tip or an ear flushing device. An ear flushing device can easily be purchased in any drug or grocery store for about $5.00.

Impacted ear wax can pose many problems. Wax will become impacted when the ears have been neglected for a period of time. Impacted wax within the ear of a cat or dog can be removed by using any number of agets including alcohol. Simply saturate a cotton ball in alcohol and rub the cotton ball around the inside of the ear in a circular motion until the impacted ear wax starts to break away from the ear drum area.

If for some reason the ears do become infected, then a trip to the vets may be in order. Untreated ear infection can be painful and eventually lead to hearing loss or damage to the inner ear. Vets will more than likely treat an ear infection with an topical antibiotic. Topical antibiotics are applied directly to the infected areas.
